Emily Piros was born and raised on the island of Maui, where she began performing at a very young age. As a child of the islands, her beginnings take root in mele and hula, as she sang and danced throughout her elementary school years. She later started an interest in theater during middle school when she joined the Theater Maui summer program.

Emily moved to San Francisco in 2001, where the culture and arts of the city enriched her love for performing. In her high schools years, she took part in many fall plays and spring musicals, including Pirates of Penzance and You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown. She also participated in the annual dance showcase, Mission Fusion, a program that is dedicated to the exposure and awareness of culture through the art of dance.

As she began her college years, she developed a deep interest in her Filipino cultural roots and joined the Kababayan program at Skyline College. It was through her participation in Pilipino Cultural Nights that she fell in love with Filipino folk dance. Today, as an active member of Barangay Dance Company, Emily continues to showcase her passion for performance and for her culture through the art of dance.
